Recently we've all-except for Nathan-been feeling a little old, and you know, it pretty much makes me sad! Cody just turned 20, and Dustin is nearly an adult! And Nathan! He's a teenager!
These pictures were taken two years apart, can you believe the differences? Especially notice Dustin. He's in a black sweatshirt on the far left in the first picture and in the white tshirt in the second one!
It feels like yesterday we were all little kids playing at the park and playing tag in the dark. I can't believe how quickly time seems to get away. I'm so glad we haven't been the sort of people to waste our lives watching dumb soap operas and being too selfish and self-centered for each other.
Instead we spent these 20 years together! And you know, I feel like that was a very productive use of our time. In this culture we simply don't put a high enough value on human beings. Media, work, special events-sadly even church events- come before each other in these times. Sure, we could have spent those 20 years pursuing education, jobs, but I think what we gained without even realizing it was invaluable. All those things waste away, at the end of your life it's not going to matter if you had a good job or not, if you had alot of education, if you had all those things, will you take it to heaven with you? No.
Out of all the things you can gain in life the one thing you can bring with you to heaven is souls, should they not, then, be the most important thing to us? I think so. My education won't come with me, neither will my money, or my job, or my social status.
I'm not saying that it isn't important to get an education, or to have a good job-hopefully I'll have both eventually!-I'm just saying these things are less important and we ought to have our priorities in order.
I know us teenagers are usually looked down on as the useless ones in society, just here to make trouble for old people, get drunk and have parties, in fact, one of the things us teenagers are looked down on for is the fact that all we do is hang out with our friends!
Then, when we become mature adults we're supposed to realize that our friends aren't important our jobs are! What a crafty trick that satan has been able to weasel into the mind of american adults.
When you're old and gray, is your job going to be with you when you are lonely? Is it going to give you any comfort when you have no one? Or anything else you put before relationships with people-besides God of course duh. Nope, I don't think so, infact I have an elderly relative at the moment who always made their job more important than anything else and anyone else, and now all the people that person abandoned in her young years to opt for her job that was more important than them have abandoned her and she is all alone. She no longer has that career, sure she has the money and the material goods to show for it, but I'm sure when she's feeling lonely she doesn't sit and have a talk with her expensive sofa.
But, when you are old and gray-if you put relationships with human beings above special events, money, status-they will be with you. Hmm, maybe we teenagers aren't wasting our young years afterall eh?
Just something that's been on my mind!
Relationships are way more important than things. The best relationships are the ones that build each other up spiritually. Some relationships are not so good for us, though. We have to choose wisely who we spend the most time with, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteYeah, you're right Penney, we have to choose friends wisely!
